My shop uses a semi-synthetic oil from Naigaurd as recommended from Mfr.
I’d be curious to know as a tech what other shops generally use
![]() 03/16/2016 at 01:47 |

Fact. Most dealers tend to have the cheapest oil that still meets their requirements.

Pretty spacious for a SnoCo townhouse garage. This is your garage right?
![]() 03/16/2016 at 01:49 |

Yep. Pretty small compared to the California garages I’m used to.

My shop uses Mobil 1 in bulk, and has bottles of Mercedes own oil for top offs. Oh, and Mobil Special for plebeian cars.

Interesting.

Most townhouses I work in give you jack squat for a garage. Hell, even what they call new “houses” (track housing) in Kirkland or Magnolia have super low clearance and you could never hope to put two vehicles in at the same time, let alone a small box and a bag of marbles on one side.

My cousin who lives in Everett has pretty abysmal garage space.
Though I’m a little spoiled. My childhood house had a three-car garage with one of the spaces turned into a shop.

I own a house with a 1-wide 1-car garage. Sacrifices were made to get this house.

With a brand new garage door opener!

And door! And yet my wife parks in the driveway 99% of the time.

I’m in Fremont and I’m jealous of the elbow room in your garage. My wife gets our one-car garage because... well, marriage. I do the oil on our xterra but the two Ms go to a trusted private shop in Kirkland. Sometime I think life his a balance between shit you know you can do better/cheaper and/or shit you’re ok assigning elsewhere.

Wow, you have a garage in Fremont? How did you pull that off
![]() 03/16/2016 at 02:05 |

Probably. This guy used to be the head mechanic at a dealership and got fed up with it and opened his own shop and has done pretty well from what I can see. I trust him, I’ll call him tomorrow and ask.

Fremont, Seattle? It’s not a “work on cars” garage. It’s a “park a small-medium car, extract yourself carefully, and sidestep inside” garage. But still, yeah, pretty happy that we got a house with a one-car garage in fremont at the valley of the market.

If you told me you lived in Ballard with a tiny garage, you would have to be Bill Gates

Give it time. This is one of the worst driving cities in America (5th worst) and the incoming tech companies are making it worse and will only continue to do so. Their angle is their tech, which is autonomous and more cars on the road.

Garage? Ballard? Bro, garages just encourage pollution. My bicycle fits very well outside by front door- Shit, where’d it go?!

Farm property in Arlington is seeming more and more attractive, until the next great tech company takes over.

Ballard youths (aka 37 year old douche bags) are so far up their own asses they can actually identify the threshold between the small and large intestine.

LOL but that garage would be on a 200' yacht, yeah? I’m definitely not Bill Gates. Somehow, I keep a wife, a 18mo, an e90 m3 and an e60 m5 happy-ish in a 2000sf house. Come over and have a beer or a glass of wine. I just spent a half hour at the gas station talking to a guy with a 2006 carerra S, my wife’s used to it. I'm a driving guy in an anti-driving city.

We got couches from the Ballard consignment store, those shitty “Handmade-in-Portland” minimalist couches that pop buttons and creak whenever someone sits on it.

I dream about buying a big house in snoqualmie from somebody that's fed up with the dirtfish rally school noise. Love that place.

I would never be tired of that. I’m also one of those weird people that likes the noise of overhead jumbo jets as they’re landing.

I worked for a big plane company for a long time, recently took a break to be a stay at home dad for a moment. My 18mo stops in his tracks and points/looks up whenever he hears an airplane, indoors or out. I get you.

I live underneath the path to Paine Field. I usually get to see brand-new Boeings with unpainted green body panels, as well as the occasional Dreamlifter.

I grew up in Portland but I don’t even get it anymore. I’d rather live there because, hey, 50% cost of living compared to Seattle! But what is Portland these days besides hipster paradise?

Awesome. Although I'll neither confirm nor deny that's the company I worked for because their social media watchdogs are assassins... I don't miss it.

Only the GT’s and GT500's require a full synthetic, we see about one of each of those cars a year on average, we do offer full synthetic as an option but most customers pass

IDK, we carry so many oils for the different lines.
Gm Brand: Dexos 5w30 semi synth (bulk oil), Dex VI (bulk ATF), M1 5w30, M1 0w40, M1 0w20, Dex2 5w30, Mobile Delvac Diesel oil, 80w90 gear lube (bulk), and probably about 20 other needed GM fluids
Subaru: Synth 5w30, synth 0w20, HP ATF, 2 CVT fluids, High perf gear lube, and LSD gear lube.
Hyundai: usually uses bulk oil, about 16 ATF varients, and Quaker state oil (we never use cause why would we).
Obviously there are other fluids, but these were the oils I could think up real quick off the top of my head. Kinda hard to keep them all straight sometimes.
